Inter River Park, North Van, BC

Inter River Park in North Vancouver supports several soccer fields, baseball pitch’s, lacrosse arena and a series of connecting trails that offer access to several links that take you to either Seymour or Grouse mountain making it the perfect back drop for a Bike Skills Park.

The multi year process combined North Vancouver District, Hoots, and NSMBA, NS BMX clubs together to create a 2 acre facility that would replace decrepit asphalt tennis courts and construct a Nationals level BMX race track, progressive Dirt Jump Area and technical features training area that is open to the public from Dusk to Dawn, seven days a week.

Designs request were submitted by the clubs and with Hoots taking project management and build roles the park was constructed over a four week build period spaced over two seasons as dictated by funding opportunity.

Funding for the park came from grants, ‘in kind’ donations from local business and District involvement which then supported hundreds of volunteer hours from both mountain bike and BMX clubs.

Local community association and neighbours were all invited to initial park presentations and were supportive of the parks potential and post build feedback has revealed that noise issues that were a concern have never surfaced, local kids are using the park EVERY day and regular visits from other bikers have not disrupted the area.

As a municipal ‘Parks’ asset, the District holds the liability for the Bike Park and has a spoken agreement with the clubs for maintenance while the District monitors any major issues that may potentially come up.
