Moodyville Park - Paved Pump Track update, North Vancouver, BC

{alt_text}

In 2017, Jay was contacted by PFS Studio - a planning, urban design and landscape architecture firm working with the City of North Vancouver (CNV) to design a bike skills pump track as part of the Moodyville Park Redevelopment Master Plan transforming the existing area into a greater neighbourhood open space. Easily accessed through residential roads and the Spirit Trail, The Park provides a key venue and social hub for recreation and family friendly activity with new higher density housing fronting the Park.

In 2018, an RFP was issued by the CNV for Moodyville Park development that included the Hoots design. Holland Landscapers Inc. came on as the general contractor and sub-contracted Hoots Ltd. to develop and build the pump track. For surface finishing, Hoots engaged partnership with Monarch Paving Ltd. to provide asphalt paving services.

Completed in May 2019, the colourful signature facility has garnered plenty of attention from riders, scooters, boarders, local folk and passer-by’s even before the celebratory opening and community planting event in the Park’s west area with Mayor and sponsors in attendance. Construction continues with additional features to be completed alongside pump track and playground area with April 2020 set for the grand Park opening.

Hoots engaged sustainable building methods and practices, and in respect to the significant grade and elevation change towards the south of the site; and working closely with PFS, the City and general contractor to bring up and match upper levels while ensuring slope / bank stabilization with compacted edging and paving finish, retaining boulders, and greenery.
