Fully completed in 2010, ‘Dirt ‘n Soul’ was the first professionally designed and built Bike Park in the Yukon territory. Located on Mount McIntyre, the natural terrain and elements gave way to a unique layout and features that riders of all levels and abilities could enjoy, from newbies to advanced-expert.
Construction began in 2009 following design finalization the year prior and Jay working in collaboration with the Contagious Mountain Bike Club to create a bike facility that welcomes everyone from kids to adult in a safe, well-designed space, and as a means to deter illegal building in the woods.
With an estimated 80 percent cost reduction from significant donation of materials, equipment and labour coming from the community and local business, Hoots was able to develop a comprehensive Bike Park covering ~2 hectares with integrated start / return hill, progressive jumps, Flow trail and technical wood-rock features.
As well, the natural topography and resources from the area lended to further savings. Through support from the City’s Parks & Recreation Dept, Icycle Sports and all the volunteers, the Bike Park was completed faster than expected allowing the community to jump right in and enjoy the facility!
