In 2011, Jay was contacted by PFS Studio – a planning, urban design and landscape architecture firm, to develop a bike skills facility design as part of the Hastings Park / PNE Master Plan which sought to transform the fairgrounds into a greater community establishment, greenspace and year-round destination. Jay collaborated with PFS and consulted with the Vancouver Dirt Jumping Coalition to garner input and ideas for junior and senior pump tracks.
Check out design & planning overview from Chris Young of the VDJC and local pro Geoff Gulevich demo-ing savvy pumping & cornering skills on the completed track!
With plans underway to implement the Master Plan, the City of Vancouver called on Hoots in 2014 to construct the bike facility with completion in spring 2015 adjacent to the bustling sport and recreation fields. On any given day, you can find a riders, family and folk enjoying the pump tracks, surrounding wood skills circuit and naturalized features providing for a fun, engaging and attractive recreation venue.
