The skate and bike facility came about as a means to address and deter skateboarders and bike riders from using the local tennis courts. Residents and the Municipality held meetings to explore the potential to provide an all-encompassing recreation space with Skate and Bike Park suggested alongside climbing wall.
In the interim, a short-term Bike Park was installed for one season and monitored for acceptance and risk. Proving to be a popular success, the temporary facility was taken down with Hoots brought in to design and construct a Bike Skills Park for the long term together with Skate Park infrastructure. Progressive jump lines were built along the west side of site, while technical wood-rock skills components reached around the Skate Park at the east to nestle between the dirt jumps and concrete forms.
The Skate and Bike Park were completed in time for a very successful Park community day celebration with both facilities receiving acclaim, and the latter written up in the IMBA ‘Managing Mountain Biking’ resource manual.
