In 2012, the District of Hope put out an RFP for the Hope Community Recreation - Coquihalla River Park redevelopment to improve facilities, establish a permanent picnic area, and explore possibility of a Bike Skills Park on 2.5 acres of land as an exciting venue attracting local community and visitors to the area.
Check out the Bike Park – Volunteerism video to see the collaborative community-building that helped make it all happen with riders of all ages and skill levels shredding, plus quick POV reel with Dangerous Dan!
In 2014, the proposal by Hoots was approved for Bike Park development in support of the District’s vision Jay working with the District, stakeholders, Pathway Partners, Friends of Coquihalla to design and build together with the community.
Read about the Coquihalla – Hope Bike Park opening in 2015 complete with 3 pump tracks, progressive jump lines, multi-use trail, technical wood skills components including the famous 91m Logzilla ride, alongside picnic and park amenities. Integrated within the wooded area, the Bike Park takes advantage of the shade and gentle undulations of the land engaging folks in the natural setting.
Materials were locally sourced and on site where possible with initial plans to clear the wooded area abandoned in favour of preserving existing trees and undergrowth. This provides for shade and greenery, alongside protection and coverage from weathering / sun exposure and reducing maintenance needs.
