Inter River Park provides the perfect backdrop for a Bike Skills facility with surrounding soccer fields, baseball pitches, lacrosse arena and series of connecting trails that offer access to Seymour or Grouse Mountain.
The multi-year Bike Park planning and development process combined the North Vancouver District, Hoots, NSMBA and NS BMX clubs together to create a 2 acre facility that would replace decrepit asphalt tennis courts with a Nationals level BMX race track, progressive Dirt Jump Area and Technical Features Training area open to the public from dusk to dawn.
Local community association and neighbours were all invited to initial presentations and were supportive of the project potential. Designs request were submitted by the clubs with Hoots taking project management and build roles to complete the Bike Park facility in 2012 with funding from grants, ‘in kind’ donations, local business and District involvement which then supported hundreds of club volunteer hours.
The Bike Park saw lots of use over the years and over time, the facility came up for renewal and in 2016, Hoots was sub-contracted to help redevelop in spring 2017. Working with King Kubota Services Ltd. and the District, and liaising with NS BMX and local riders, an intermediate - advanced pump track was built, along with paved junior pump track, start hill with rock roll and practice drops, and surrounding naturalized borders and picnic area.
Check out a young’un local rider honing in his skills on the paved junior pump track!
