Chilliwack 'Island 22' Bike Park, BC (2012 - 2013)

Skills Parks

Nestled between the Fraser River and Valley District dyke system, Island 22 Bike Park provided some challenges but was well worth the effort with beautiful location amongst healthy cedar woods and opportunity to explore.

Initiated by the City with land provided by the Fraser Valley Regional District, the project caters to a large riding community throughout the greater Chilliwack area. Initial planning saw a number of riders come out to give their input with desire for advanced-expert jumps alongside beginner-intermediate features and Norco Factory Team Rider, Sam Dueck, integral in the design phase of the Bike Park.

With limited budget and tight timeline, creativity played a large role in construction of the facility. Many of the wooden features were built from cedars that had to be cut down in the park for safety reasons followed by many hours of peeling and building to create a very natural feeling.

Working around wet seasons, the bike facility was built in phases to allow time for the site to dry! Despite the challenges, the completed Bike Park is a valuable amenity with skills area, drop zone, pump track and progression jumps to challenge every rider level, and also includes a double black diamond trick jump line for more experienced riders and sand / mulch jump for those wanting to try out but have a softer landing! Alongside, a multi-use trail encompasses the entire Bike Park and offers great views of the Fraser River.
