Parkallen Pump Track - Ellingson Park, Edmonton, AB (2018)

Pump Tracks

Over 2016 - 2017, the Parkallen Community League (PCL) connected with Jay for the redesign and redevelopment of the existing pump track facility in Ellingson Park. After submission and approval of proposal, Hoots Ltd. prepared detailed design and construction drawings for a revitalized pump track based on site review, meetings with the PCL and community input. The following year, the Hoots team hit the ground to create a super fun area for riders!

The pump track incorporates a main circuit and perimeter lines to connect riders to start hill decks at the north and south, with integrated rollers and berms to provide for a variety of ride lines and progressive challenges. The start decks provide a gathering area and viewing platform, and enable intermediate / advanced riders to gain further speed and momentum, while the perimeter track further increases ride opportunities and loop circuits. All combined, the pump track allows riders of all abilities the opportunity to experience natural flow and progression as they engage and challenge their skill levels, and explore and navigate from one track line to another.

Working with the existing facility and parameters of the project site, Hoots implemented sustainable design and building practices repurposing materials to raise the track base, installing pipe drainage, bringing in further clay material to shape and finishing up with 3 compaction cycles to fully set the track followed by ride testing to ensure pump track flow and fun!

Completed in 2018, the pump track update contributes meaningfully to the Parkallen community and provides an exciting local attraction that can be enjoyed by all.
