Blackfalds Bike Park, AB (2017 with regular maintenance)

Skills Parks

In winter 2017, the Town of Blackfalds put out a proposal for the design-build of a Bike Park as part of the greater Sterling Industries Sports Park (formerly All-Star Park) with sports and recreation fields, a skatepark and public school. Hoots was called on by NAK Design Strategies, Calgary to collaborate on a proposal for 3 design concepts with diverse range of features for all rider levels on a 4 acre piece of land together with other park amenities and naturalized stormwater management, erosion mitigation and greenery.

Following award, Hoots worked with NAK and the Town to host a comprehensive public engagement workshop alongside meetings with local authorities to garner input and ideas towards the selected concept. Responding to feedback from local riders, bikeshops, the racing community and general public, a detailed design package was put together with construction taking place over summer - fall 2017

Hoots completed the bike park working closely with the community and volunteers. The Parallax Energy Bike Skills Park as it is known includes an expansive pump track, wood skills balance area, and progressive jump line series from beginner to expert with various jump styles from table tops to semi tables, gaps with wood take off ramps, log launch and wall ride. The jump lines and Flow Trail run the full length of the Park alongside skills trails and perimeter path. The start / return hill to the north and spectator mound to the south offer significant vantage points of the bike facility, unique features and natural elements.

The Bike Park brings residents, family and visitors together to enjoy in outdoor activity since opening!
