Hinton Bike Park & Trails, AB (2008 - 2015 to current)

Skills Parks | Trails

From 2008 to 2015, Hoots worked with the Hinton Mountain Bike Association (HMBA), Town Council and interest groups to develop a ‘fun, safe, and free riding and trails facility accessible to all ages and abilities, and promoting skills development and active lifestyles’ as envisioned by the HMBA.

Through several years of research, planning and consultation, Hoots proposed a multi-phase plan to design and build a Bike Park & Trails facility that would accommodate all user levels; provide opportunities to engage with the unique forest and natural setting; and transform Hinton as a go to destination and recreational hub playing host to events and programs, and welcoming visitors from all around the region.

With over 3200 volunteer hours, more than 50 regional sponsors and multiple grant contributions, the facility opened in 2015 and is Alberta’s first full scale free-access mountain bike park. Accommodating beginner to expert levels and tying into existing infrastructure, the 4.5 acre Bike Park features progression based skills area, jumps, pump tracks and various looping trails, connecting cross-country & jump feature trails that branch into the greater 40 acre parcel of land.

Hoots continues to work the HMBA to maintain, develop and expand the Bike Park & Trails to keep things fresh, safe and exciting; and incorporating sustainable design and construction to accommodate the varied terrain with adherence to standards, procedures and practices as set out by the Alberta ESRD.
