Planning began in early 2021 when the City collaborated with Hoots to carry out public engagement to help shape design. Through social media outreach, online survey and virtual open house, Hoots developed 3 concepts for dirt and paved tracks with accompanying skills features to complement Garden City Bike Terrain Park lying 1 km to the east and also designed and built by Hoots.
With strong preference for a paved track, Hoots prepared a detailed design and worked with the City to source local materials for the track base as well as skills components. Building from spring into summer, the Hoots team heartily shaped and compacted the track, and engaged with sub-contractors for paving services and volunteers for finish work.
The completed bike recreation facility is a go to attraction in addition to the nearby Community Centre, skate park, sports facilities and popular Railway Greenway path running adjacent. The finished Bike Park integrates with naturalized planting through its wood-rock features, boulders and log seating; and provides a unique and colourful asset with splashy track line painting applied by the City under Hoots guidance.
